Omen Presents: The Night Post

Transcript

Hello, friends! I'm Tim Krause, creator of Omen, and welcome back to Omen Presents--a between-season series that features episode spotlights from my audio drama friends that you're really going to enjoy while we're busy working on season two. If you love Omen and want to support us, you can listen to our new 2-hour anthology--Apocryphal Accounts--by either becoming a patron at patreon.com/omenpodcast or by making a $5 donation at omencast.com. But the best way to support Omen is to share our show with your friends and family. Thank you so much for listening and thank you for your love and encouragement!

Script writing for Omen season two is slow but steady, especially now during the holiday season. I'm currently writing episode five, and have put together a master outline for the entire season two plot line. I actually consider myself to be quite the slow writer in general, especially with a story this complicated. But I'm choosing to give myself and the script the time and attention it needs to be as good as it can possibly be. And I knew season two of Omen was going to take longer to put together than season one, just due to the fact that so much of the story has deviated from the original Pathfinder campaign the story is based on.

For example, in the original tabletop roleplaying game, the main villain Mara didn't actually survive the infamous final confrontation of season one. Gwen just blasted her out of the sky with a fireball as she fled. It was a very cool and dramatic moment for my players at the time. But I think it would have made for an equally anticlimactic story arc for Mara in the show.

Character motivations don't need to be very complicated when you're playing a game. Just having a mystery to solve is usually enough to get players invested in putting their characters' lives in constant danger. That's one of the reasons adapting the story of Omen has been so rewarding for me. I get to develop--and in some cases, invent from scratch--believable motivations that make these characters feel like real people. And while I was disappointed that Mara didn't get to be a recurring villain in our Pathfinder game, it's been a lot of fun creating this new, more dramatic version of the story. I'll be sure to keep you all up to date on my progress.

Between writing sessions, I've really been enjoying listening to "The Night Post"--an award-winning supernatural audio drama created by an all-queer team of beautiful storytellers. "The Night Post" follows the misadventures of a group of conscripted couriers who deliver mail in the mysterious Gilt City. Driven by necessity, duty, and desperation, these intrepid castaways shed light on the unsettling and unpredictable powers that both haunt Gilt City and hold sway over their organization. With excellent writing and characters you'll absolutely fall in love with, "The Night Post" is definitely worth giving a listen.

They are currently in the middle of their third season, so now is a great time to start binging episodes. You can find "The Night Post" anywhere you listen to podcasts or at nightpostpod.com. And without further ado, Omen presents "Last Delivery on the Left", episode 10 from season 2 of "The Night Post. And until next we meet, fair winds and following seas!
