Characters
Omen's story and setting is adapted from a Pathfinder 1E tabletop roleplaying game started in 2015 by Tim Krause. In the world of Pathfinder, characters are often described by three main traits: Ancestry, Class, and Alignment.
A character's Ancestry (previously referred to as Race) could include a plethora of fantastical lineages and species from every corner of Golarion. Humans are most common around the Inner Sea, but communities of dwarves, elves, halflings, and gnomes (as well as half-elves and even half-ocs) are not unheard of.
Class can be thought of as a character's career or speciality, and includes such classic archetypes as fighters, wizards, and rogues. Classes can also be specialized variants, such as the Unbreakable (fighter archetype). Some classes even combine two or more to form hybrid roles, such as the Magus (wizard/fighter) or Investigator (alchemist/rogue).
Finally, Alignment refers to the wide range of morals, codes of ethics, and personal philosophies of a given character. Utilizing a scale of Good, Evil, Law, and Chaos, Alignment speaks more to a character's personality and world views than their individual choices and actions.
Omen's cast of characters will expand as the story unfolds, so be sure to check for new entries with each new episode! And also please visit the Cast & Crew page to meet the lovely voice actors who help bring these characters to life!
Gwendolyn Gainsborough
Age/Ancestry/Pronouns: 26 years old, half-elf, she/her
Class/Alignment: Magus, Chaotic Good
Voice actor: Mamito Kukwikila
Gwen is a plucky and headstrong young woman, eager to fight for a just cause and champion those too weak to defend themselves. She is the eldest daughter in a highborn family of great influence and wealth, and sometimes comes across as naive in the ways of street smarts. Gwen also doesn't know the value of a dollar (or gold piece, in this case) which, combined with her well-spoken manner, often gives away her more aristocratic upbringing. But as a magic user, she is exceedingly clever and resourceful—being well-versed in arcane theory, politics, and sparring. Her innocent and enthusiastic nature often undermines her considerable intelligence and thoughtfulness. But at her core, Gwen is just a good person who strives to offset her privileged life by helping others.
Tobias Porte
Age/Ancestry/Pronouns: 17 years old, human, he/they
Class/Alignment: Investigator, Chaotic Neutral
Voice actor: A.J. Beckles
To most of his acquaintances, Toby is a pretentious know-it-all—though he prefers to style himself as an intellectual elitist. He is fascinated by science, history, and linguistics, and has quickly surpassed each of his teachers' knowledge with overwhelming aplomb. Toby is never short on biting retorts and delights in delivering quips over the heads of any would-be rivals. Having never known his biological parents, Toby's constant efforts to outthink and outperform his peers hints at a deep desire for affirmation—both from others and himself. Though he would never be caught dead admitting to this perceived weakness, he does hold a soft spot for those patient enough to call themselves his friends and displays rare moments of gratitude for their companionship. And while he often views life as a problem to be solved and most people as tedious obstacles, Toby's scholarly ambitions betray a drive to ultimately understand himself and his place in the world.
Quentin Charthagnion
Age/Ancestry/Pronouns: 21 years old, human, he/him
Class/Alignment: Unbreakbale, Lawful Neutral
Voice actor: Charlie Wes
Quentin is an entry-level officer within his local constabulary, and aspires to one day serve in the military. Most of Quentin's early family memories have been repressed, due to his late parents' affinity for making adverse deals with evil extra-planar beings (a fact that shames him to this day). Quentin was rescued from these dangerous living conditions and adopted by his Uncle Lewin, who tutored his nephew in history, politics, and law—subtly grooming him for public service. But Quentin views politics as more of a necessary evil that supplements the simpler and more actionable ideals of law enforcement and keeping order. Quentin often takes his duties and himself altogether too seriously, in many cases favoring cut-and-dry procedure over his own intuition. And while serving his community is at the forefront of Quentin's motivations, he takes more comfort in the convictions of living "correctly" than making the world a better place.
Lola
Age/Ancestry/Pronouns: 28 years old, human, she/they
Class/Alignment: Vaultbreaker, Chaotic Neutral
Voice Actor: Méabh de Brún
Smarmy, cocksure, and quick to flash an infectious grin, Lola knows how to make the best of a bad situation. After finding herself in the midst of pirates, she was forced to quickly endear herself to the infamous pirate Captain Stoddard, raising her station to the crew's quartermaster. In addition to her thieving background, Lola possesses an almost uncanny ability to read people and say the right things at the right time—allowing her to thrive in otherwise hostile environments. And while technically a free member of Stoddard's crew, Lola is painfully aware of her employer's penchant for violence toward disloyalty. This—paired with the bridges she's burned back home—makes leaving the pirate's life quite the thorny endeavor. And while she is content for now just to be free of chains, Lola always keeps her eyes peeled for opportunities to improve her lot in life.
Perseus Lewin
Age/Ancestry/Pronouns: 70 years old, human, he/him
Class/Alignment: Loremaster, Chaotic Good
Voice actor: Chris Einspahr
Professor Perseus Lewin is a linguist, historian, retired archaeologist, lecturer on ancient civilizations, and an upstanding member of his local governing council. A kind and patient soul, Lewin understands the inherent value in people around him. He is untroubled when others underestimate his knowledge and experience but always seems to know much more than he lets on. And while he does guard many secrets, both academic and personal, Lewin is more than willing to lend aid to those he trusts and respects. Always polite, especially toward his rivals, Lewin often hides his true feelings behind a curtain of civility and isn't above bending the rules to serve a greater good. But at heart, Lewin dreams of righting the wrongs of history and securing the freedoms of future generations.
Asema Malik
Age/Ancestry/Pronouns: 40 years old, human, she/they
Class/Alignment: Mastermind, Lawful Neutral
Voice actor: Sena Bryer
Minister Asema Malik is a respected member of her community—serving in local politics, bolstering the economy through her successful business, and seeding foreign rapport by reinvesting her vast wealth into international infrastructure. Malik prides herself on the many projects she balances and styles herself as a champion of democracy and cultural pluralism. While she often puts on airs of humility and benevolence, Malik also has a penchant for surrounding herself with items of beauty—be it artwork, status symbols, or even people. But Malik measures her worth more by the connections and working relationships she maintains than by the success of her business. However, her strong sense of duty to her family's legacy ensures a great deal of her time is devoted to closely managing her company. Ever confident and self-reliant, Malik trusts only in her own reputation and influence to shape the world as she sees fit.
Olivia Temperance
Age/Ancestry/Pronouns: 30 years old, half-elf, she/her
Class/Alignment: Unknown
Voice actor: Meli Grant
A newly-hired personal aide to Minister Malik, the beautiful and brawny Olivia Temperance is shrouded in mystery. When she does speak—which is exceedingly rare—it is seldom more than a single word. Temperance shows little emotion in her duties, but her imposing presence always leaves an impression. Ever secretive and reserved, Temperance goes to great lengths to avoid speaking—though it's clear she possesses a keen and calculating intellect. Few could say what motivates such a woman, and even fewer know the secrets she protects.
Captain Stoddard
Age/Ancestry/Pronouns: 35 years old, human, he/him
Class/Alignment: Corsair, Neutral Evil
Voice Actor: Anthony Morales
Feared even amongst his morally bankrupt colleagues, Stoddard is one of the most wanted men on the Inner Sea. Manipulative and merciless, he isn't above kidnapping and selling children—an act too vile and taboo for most seasoned pirates. Despite his cultured and debonair exterior, Stoddard is unpredictable and indulges in startling acts of violence with an almost nonchalant disregard for his victims. Well-spoken and educated for a corsair, Stoddard isn't as petty or prideful as your average pirate captain. But when he feels he's been slighted, there is no length to which he won't go to ensure his enemies suffer for their impudence.
Battoh
Age/Ancestry/Pronouns: 40 years old, human, he/him
Class/Alignment: Buccaneer, True Neutral
Voice Actor: Gary Scales
Ever reserved and stoic, Battoh serves as Captain Stoddard's First Mate (and often the voice of reason) along with his deaf and mute twin brother, Batab. Many would think Battoh's proclivity towards Qadiran proverbs and words of wisdom would put him at odds with his cruel employer. But the First Mate's calm demeanor seems to appeal to Stoddard's sense of reason, which earns Battoh much respect from the crew. Both he and Batab hold themselves to the unspoken "laws" of crew politics, issuing commands with a level-headed and thoughtful approach. And despite the twins' intimidating builds, both tend to avoid violence whenever possible—almost as if atoning for a checkered past.
Wisp
Age/Ancestry/Pronouns: 60 years old, human, he/him
Class/Alignment: Sailor, Chaotic Good
Voice Actor: Chris Einspahr
A seasoned sailor through and through, Wisp has been around the Inner Sea more than a few times. No one really knows his story or his real name, but Wisp has served aboard many vessels under many captains and has sailed longer than any of them. While outwardly gruff and a bit of a hayseed, Wisp is a kind soul at heart and demonstrates a dogged loyalty to those who earn his respect.
Barlow
Age/Ancestry/Pronouns: 35 years old, human, he/him
Class/Alignment: Discretion Specialist, Chaotic Neutral
Voice Actor: Graham Rowat
Slightly more intelligent than his comrades, Barlow likes to think of himself as more of a shrewd businessman than a lowly kidnapper. But what he lacks in reputation, he makes up for in caution and preparation. He is skilled in discreet tracking and espionage, preferring to leave more hands-on thuggery to his crew. Barlow is also talented in disguise and subterfuge, his only distinguishing feature being a persistent hacking cough.
Nat
Age/Ancestry/Pronouns: 35 years old, human, she/her
Class/Alignment: Bandit, Chaotic Evil
Voice Actor: Sarah Golding
While some are attracted to a pirate's life for gold, Nat is in it purely for the power trip. The most sadistic and cruel of Barlow's crew, Nat has a tendency to lapse into violent mood swings. Even her peers find her temperament off-putting, as in the space of a moment she is capable of jumping from cheerful to homicidal. Nat's talents for intimidation are put to good use in her profession, as she thoroughly enjoys instilling fear and paranoia in the prisoners she abuses.
Loverboy
Age/Ancestry/Pronouns: 20 years old, human, he/him
Class/Alignment: Hired Thug, Neutral Evil
Voice Actor: Brandon P Jenkins
Loverboy is relatively new to Barlow's crew and the pirating trade in general. He believes all it takes to thrive in this dirty business is a schoolyard bully's enthusiasm—something he possesses in great quantity. Oblivious and reckless, Loverboy's motivations lie in gold, freedom from moral codes, and the idea that one day he will be feared and respected as a proper corsair. However, his superiors see him and use him for what he really is—a delusional thug.
Torn
Age/Ancestry/Pronouns: 300 years old, demonic, he/they
Class/Alignment: Incubus, Chaotic Evil
Voice Actor: Tom Laflin
Like most lust demons, Torn is a creature driven by feral pleasures. However, a thirty-year exile at the bottom of the ocean has unhinged his mind more than a bit. Although he is prone to flamboyant mood swings and manic fits of giggling, Torn nonetheless remains fascinated by mortals and their inherent entertainment value. Desperate for company, Torn suppresses his baser urges to appear urbane around visitors and goes out of his way to tease and cajole his guests into playing by his rules.
Mara
Age/Ancestry/Pronouns: 500 years old, demonic, she/they
Class/Alignment: Succubus, Chaotic Evil
Voice Actor: Sarah Doreen MacPhee
Hell hath no fury like a demon scorned. And while most succubi are content to sow discord through their seductive machinations, Mara is driven by a pure, unrelenting lust for vengeance. Corrupting the innocent and enticing mortals is all well and good. But Mara has moved heaven and earth to track down those who have slighted her, and will not rest until her enemies cower before her terrible beauty. Mara is an especially patient hunter, utilizing mind control and illusion to manipulate those unfortunate enough to cross her path. And when she finally catches up to her foes, there will be no swift, painless death. Mara dreams only of forcing her enemies to watch as all they love perishes before their eyes. Only when they lay beaten and broken at her feet will she finally rip out their miserable hearts.
Hannah Nesmith
Age/Ancestry/Pronouns: 8 years old, human, she/they
Class/Alignment: Child, Chaotic Good
Voice Actor: Sophie Fae
Recently taken from her home, Hannah has witnessed many frightening things and met more than a few unsavory characters. But despite the traumatic events she's been through at such a young age, Hannah is clever enough to discern friend from foe and is even willing to open up about her experiences to those she trusts.
Captain Whursog Bottlebraid
Age/Ancestry/Pronouns: 85 years old, dwarven, he/him
Class/Alignment: Freebooter, Chaotic Good
Voice Actor: Conor Cook
Whursog Bottlebraid (known simply as Sog to his friends) is a retired adventurer and sea captain. While his professional career might not be exactly spotless, Sog more than makes up for a checkered past with his continued efforts to scour the Inner Sea of pirates, smugglers, and ne'er-do-wells. Good-natured and rarely short on corny platitudes, Sog has a knack for turning connections into endearing allies. And while Sog is more than willing to poke fun at himself, he's never so serious as when he's tracking down local corsairs.
Venture-Captain Brackett
Age/Ancestry/Pronouns: 65 years old, human, he/him
Class/Alignment: Venture-Captain, Lawful Neutral
Voice Actor: Kyle Brown
Leader and founder of the Pathfinder Lodge in Almas, Brackett is a pillar of the community and a staunch defender of Common Rule under the People's Council. Like many venture-captains, Brackett appears brash and outgoing and is known for his skill with a blade. Ever the gregarious and gracious host, Brackett rubs shoulders with many of Almas' elite—maintaining personal and professional relationships in many circles, both high and low.
Lieutenant Rupert Drakeheel
Age/Ancestry/Pronouns: 40 years old, halfling, they/them
Class/Alignment: Inspector, Lawful Neutral
Voice Actor: Conor Cook
A commissioned officer within the Eagle Knights, Drakeheel is responsible for managing the Almas city guard and runs their day-to-day assignments. Even on good days, Drakeheel has little patience for tomfoolery and adopts a no-nonsense attitude when performing their duties—a trait common amongst military halflings to compensate for their short stature. But while Drakeheel is more likely to chew out officers than praise them, their temper rarely boils over and they are generally well-liked and respected among their peers.
