Omen Presents: Sidequesting

Transcript

Hello, friends! I'm Tim Krause, creator of Omen, and welcome back to Omen Presents--a between-season series featuring episode spotlights from my audio drama friends that I think you're really going to enjoy while we're busy working on Omen season two.

I just had a week-long break to spend time with my family and am now fully recharged and ready to jump back into writing. The script for episode nine is almost finished. And I tend to write my characters and their motivations as organically and believably as possible, so the story has taken some unexpected turns. Let's just say our heroes are in a situation that is really testing the boundaries of their friendship--to the point where some of them are beginning to wonder if they were ever truly friends in the first place.

I've even begun entertaining the idea of splitting the party up for a majority of season three--which, if you're a fan of tabletop role-playing games like me, may give you a bit of anxiety. But as both a storyteller and a fan of stories, knowing that anything is possible in the narrative really keeps me engaged. The idea that a character's actions can lead to unforeseen consequences that don't necessarily resolve by the end of an episode makes a story feel real to me.

I generally try to pursue plot threads that I consider to be the most interesting. But even though I'm adapting Omen from nearly five years of Pathfinder game notes, its story is constantly in motion--even during the recording and editing process. It never ceases to amaze me how real and lived-in the cast and crew make my scripts feel.

That's also why the fantasy podcast Sidequesting is really appealing to me. Have you ever played a game and been more interested in a colorful side character or a particularly engaging optional mission? That's Sidequesting--a show all about the minor characters and quests that many consider to be the best parts of fantasy epics. Podcasting legend Tal Minear has created an engaging world populated with fascinating characters and a genuine sense of wonder that never fails to cheer me up.

And just like Omen, Sidequesting is also on Apollo--the free audio fiction exclusive podcasting app. By becoming a member of Apollo+, you can listen to ad-free episodes and bonus content from Omen, Sidequesting, and over 40 other great audio dramas. So if you're a fan of multiple shows on Apollo, Apollo+ is definitely worth checking out.

The story we're about to hear is episode 2 from season 3 of Sidequesting, in which amateur adventurer Rion attempts to break a very confusing curse. Be sure to download Apollo and binge all of Sidequesting's excellent episodes. I'll be back soon with more Omen season two news. But until next we meet, my friends, fair winds and following seas!
